There are several open, neutral Internet exchanges operating in New Zealand where participants can find others who wish to exchange IP traffic in a cost effective manner.

The following neutral Internet exchanges are operated by NZIX:

The Auckland Peering Exchange and Wellington Internet Exchange are both highly distributed. Connections to either/both exchanges are available across all of the CityLink operated switches in Auckland and Wellington i.e. hundreds of buildings across both cities.

By peering at an NZIX exchange you agree to provide routing information about your networks to other exchange participants to optimise traffic flows across that exchange. For more details of this agreement see the ExchangeNET Terms and Conditions.

In order to participate at an NZIX exchange, you need to be attached to the exchange fabric, have a router capable of running BGP, and blocks of IPv4 and/or IPv6 numbers that are yours to route (at least a /24 of IPv4 and a /48 of IPv6).
